I want to take a moment and allow each of you to stop and think of your own childhood. Do you remember your parents, the Christmas parties and the child hood memories of yesteryear as amazing, wonderful and cherished? I sure remember mine that way, in fact, it is almost perfect.
Now think of a childhood, where you are "shipped out" for Christmas to a boarding school. This is a place where you have been located as your parents have gone through a divorce. You are a little boy under the ages of seven and your two younger brothers are crying because you have been "left" during the Christmas holidays.
There is a sense of being abandoned and even rejected.
In what feels like a prison, you get a call one day you are going to be with your mother again and a big car drives to pick you up. You feel very confused, but you are excited about your new life. When you arrive, there is a party, an older man three times your age calls you brother. But this man is a huge celebrity.
Then, you are told not to ever be in photographs, to stay away from fans with cameras to avoid being kidnapped. Your world is now behind a huge gate and the walls from the outside are protected. You love the amusement park living and the exciting nature of this person who you didn't even know, is flocked by people from around the world.
In more ways than one, Elvis became the father of Billy, Rick and David Stanley. As the oldest, Billy would always do his best to watch over his brothers. Living in Graceland, in the house next door and always having access to their "leader", the boys became endeared to the greatest entertainer who ever lived.
Everybody else was a relative or friend, but Elvis would call these boys his brothers, even tho he was more of a father than their Step Father Vernon would have ever been.
In the last seventeen years of the life of Elvis Presley, there were times when Billy would be closer to Elvis than others. Billy was in many ways, his own leader and an individual who got caught up in the lifestyle that took him away from the values even his older step brother wanted him to have.
Elvis had a faith that came from his childhood, and while he was a man looking for companionship and love, things also did not work out for him. This caused him to connect with the Gospel he knew as a child. This gave Elvis peace and his witness to his brothers, carried them into a relationship with God.
This embodies the unique story of the Graceland boys running around the yard for one purpose, to be part of the most famous family in rock and roll history. There are many fans who treat them with love. Some fans treat them with disdain and hatred. Fewer fans are self proclaimed experts and have different thoughts about what they think happened, but Billy knows what happened.
What a beautiful story to tell, and OCEANIA is embarking on this journey with publishing, documentary and narrative feature films.
In the meantime, Billy is starting his own podcast and you will enjoy hearing him tell stories about what really happened coming soon.
After meeting with the publishing team at EPIC and under the leadership of Jennifer Willingham, THE FAITH OF ELVIS PRESLEY is now ready for placement. Keep our combined film, publishing and Omnimedia teams in your prayers as we seek the right partners.
